About this event

Nous Group, in partnership with the Macdoch Foundation, invites you to join a discussion on the future of local meat processing and what it will take to support thriving regional food systems. Access to local processing is becoming more constrained across parts of Australia. For some, that’s already showing up in day-to-day decisions. For others, it’s a slower shift, but one that has real implications for producer viability, regional economies and the resilience of the broader food system. Our recent research, Fragility to Resilience, draws on national survey data, interviews and insights from across the supply chain. It points to a system that has been optimised for scale and efficiency, and is now under pressure from a different set of expectations. In this session, we’ll share a few of the patterns we’re seeing, and use that as a starting point for a broader discussion: - What does a more resilient local processing system actually look like? - Where are the constraints most acute? - And what market, policy, regulatory, investment and mindset shifts are needed to support it? We will be joined by senior voices from across the sector for a meaningful, forward-looking panel discussion, including Lauren Stevens, Robert Pekin and Patrick O’Neill, followed by an interactive Q&A.
